No discrimination in Moravia Municipality!

The Municipality of Moravia aims to eliminate any expression of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

By agreement No. 448-2017 taken at the ordinary session of May 1st, the Municipal Council of Moravia approved the draft Municipal Regulation against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It was published on Tuesday in the newspaper La Gaceta.

With this regulation, the municipality will now have the task of promoting, in the processes of care and service, actions for non-discrimination through activities that will take place especially on May 17th of each year, which marks the International Day against Homophobia, Lesbophobia and Transphobia.

The regulation also establishes “friendly services”, which means that it is impossible to deny or limit services to a person because of their orientation, for which training processes will be carried out to sensitize officials.

Responsibilities are established for the offices of the social area (Women’s Office, Cultural Promotion Office, Office of Children and Adolescents and Office of the Elderly), to promote, in a coordinated and joint way, the planning, request for budgeting and implementation of activities, as well as the coordination of awareness processes in the field of non-discrimination towards LGBT populations to eradicate these practices that violate the rights of each person.

Sanctions are part of this regulation which states that staff shall not generate or promote any physical, administrative or verbal acts of a discriminatory nature motivated by sexual orientation or gender identity. In case of a complaint against an official of the Municipality of Moravia in this matter, an administrative disciplinary process will be considered and the respective investigation according to the rules of due process and right of defense.

The municipality will have to promote the visualization of this regulation in the facilities. During the week of May 17th of each year, the LGBT flag will be hoisted in the Municipal Palace and an official event of commemoration will be celebrated those days.
