No material damage reported after Tuesday’s earthquake

The emergency authorities do not report considerable damage after the 5.1 tremor recorded on Tuesday afternoon. According to Sigifredo Pérez, chief of operations of the National Commission, there are currently no reports of damage caused by the earthquake.

Pérez also said that the CNE carried out monitoring in surrounding areas, as well as in Alajuela, Heredia, San José, Cartago, Central Pacific and Chorotega Region.

The quake was recorded at 3:14 pm, specifically 9.3 kilometers west of Río Cuarto de Alajuela, 88 kilometers deep. According to the Seismic Engineering Laboratory, the earthquake was caused by the internal rupture of the Cocos Plate more than 100 km deep.

After the quake, several officials of the Legislative Assembly, Courts of Justice and Judicial Power, were evacuated from the facilities as part of the security protocols.
