Schloterhaussen Rojas, a former general secretary of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), was sentenced to 12 years in prison for four embezzlement offenses.
The former official was accused by the prosecution of removing 3 million colones from confidential expenditures, intended for research conducted by the agency.
The offenses allegedly occurred from 2007 to 2008.
Schloterhaussen sent a person, who was a witness at trial, to cash three checks for 500,000 colones each, money was delivered to the accused without being recorded in the income and expense book. The next time, the accused agreed with the Financial Accounting Department of the Judiciary to use 1.5 million colones in research. However, due to a problem in the computer system of the office, that money had to be deposited in the accused’s personal bank account,
quoted the public prosecutor.
The trial against him began on July 18 and ended on August 11th. The former official was also condemned to pay 8 million colones.
Schloterhaussen is unable from holding public office within the next 10 years.
