Osa merchants come together and give up plastic

This week Osa community gave up plastic and made a commitment to the environment. In this community the merchants united to eliminate all plastic from restaurants, bars and shops.

Representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Osa Chamber of Tourism and the general public participated in the declaration. Single-use plastic such as forks, knives, spoons, glasses and plates, bags, straws and other elements widely used in the daily consumption of the premises is expected to be replaced by biodegradable materials.

In addition the local authorities explained that the plastic that is impossible to replace will be properly discarded.

We have committed ourselves to the development of a sustainable tourism activity in the region and to transform this vision into concrete actions, we decided to create awareness among our associates,”

said Luis Centeno, president of the Osa Chamber of Tourism.
