Otto Guevara: “President has no clear priorities”

It’s a pity that the President has no clear priorities on what is important in this country!”

said legislator Otto Guevara, head of the Libertarian Movement, in response to Luis Guillermo Solís’ accusations on Monday.

The President claims Guevara is obstructing the bill for tax on corporations, an initiative that seeks to assign 95% of the resources of this tribute to the Ministry of Public Security.

The statements were given after hearing requests made by a neighbor of Siquirres to provide more police officer to the area, following the murder of an 8-year-old child in Guácimo, Limón.

The legislator said that it was a pity that Solís did not allow legislators from the ruling Citizen Action Party (PAC) to support a proposal made to transfer resources from the extraordinary budget to the Ministry of Public Security.

Guevara added that in relation to the budget for next year,

the President prefers to keep giving money hand over fist to (public) universities, increasing the Special Fund for Higher Education (FEES) budget by ¢ 38 billion, but Ministry of Security is not getting the amount required.”

The project aims to rehabilitate the tax on corporations, invalidated by the Constitutional Court in January 2015. The Financial Affairs Commission of the Congress later ruled in favor of it, but it has made no progress ever since.
