Otto Guevara: “Referendum on animal abuse should be suspended”

Otto Guevara, legislator from Movimiento Libertario, maintains his opposition to the referendum against animal abuse. He thinks that the process should be suspended.

According to the congressman, it is not necessary to continue with a popular consultation that intends to approve a law which was already declared unconstitutional.

Advocates on animal welfare presented all the necessary signatures to continue the process. As consequence, next week the electoral magistrates will have the file available to define whether the referendum proceeds or not.

However, Otto Guevara said that bringing the Costa Rican society to a confrontation on animal abuse, with a cost of 2,500 million colones, to approve a law with serious defects of unconstitutionality would be a mockery to those who participate in the process.
