PAC wants ban for mayors’ indefinite re-election

A reform of the Electoral Code proposes to prohibit the indefinite re-election of mayors, who could only opt for two consecutive terms in office.

The initiative was proposed by Franklin Corella and Marco Vinicio Redondo, legislators for the party Acción Ciudadana (PAC).

Corella explained that the ban would also apply to the deputy mayors, aldermen and trustees, and added the reform is intended to avoid power concentration in a single individual.
