The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP) stated that the public employment bill is a mockery to the productive sector and the country, because in appearance before legislators, minister of the Presidency Sergio Alfaro declared it was not enough.
We express our deepest discomfort at this “political maneuver” of proposing a bill in which they do not believe. If they consider that it is not enough, to which we agree, what we expect them to do is to work on its improvements, not to try to discredit it as they have tried to do. This is a mockery for Costa Rica. We consider that valuable and important time is being wasting because we do not want to carry out the structural reforms. What was the point of convening a project that they were not going to support?

For Costa Rican businessmen, the Executive authorities’ attitude shows a lack of political will to implement the structural changes.
UCCAEP assures that the indications of the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic on the Public Employment Project intended to proof that the current text is not enough and it requires more content to generate a greater positive impact on public finances, since employees accumulate a long list of 121 salary bonuses, which are awarded in addition to the salary.
