Panamanians celebrate arrest of fugitive in Costa Rica

The arrest of Gilberto Ventura Ceballos in Costa Rica was celebrated by the Panamanian authorities and the media in Panama deemed it of great importance.

Ventura is linked to the murder and abduction of five young Chinese people. They were murdered in the years 2010 and 2011.

On Saturday, agents of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) in coordination with the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) captured the subject in Jacó, where he administered several providers. In the afternoon, Ventura was sent to Panama where he is kept in a maximum security cell.

The man escaped from La Joyita prison on December 28th, so his capture had a great impact on the neighboring country.

This case is classified as one of the most frightening crimes of recent years in Panama. The case of Ventura is one of the most striking in that country, since it has been more than six years since the investigations were initiated and so far there has not been given a final sentence,”

said Radio Panamá journalist Leonardo Grinspan.

Moreover, in Panamá, the arrest is key to determine how he managed to escape in December, because in recent months there was talk of complicity but nothing was verified.

Ventura’s victims were kidnapped. They were related to families who sold mobile devices in Panamá, much like Ventura did.

The police report indicates that the murders were carried out in the Trapichito de La Chorrera.

In social networks, the president of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, was happy with the arrest of the Dominican, who had surgery to remove his fingerprints in 2011.

In the end, the state always wins,”

said the president.
