Executive president of the National Children’s Trust (PANI) Ana Teresa León expressed during a hearing at the Committee on Youth, Children and Adolescents of the Legislative Assembly, that the institution opposes the reduction of its 2017 budget to transfer those resources to the Ministry of Public Security.
Last Thursday, the Partido Unión Social Cristiana (PUSC) proposed to take a total of ¢ 25 billion from the PANI and from the debt cutting policy, and give them to Security in order to hire 1,000 to 1,500 new police officers.
León explained that she is aware that the Ministry of Public Security requires more resources, but she assured PANI also needs them and warned that if the cut is made, it would affect the programs in 200 communities.
Legislator Fabricio Alvarado, from Partido Restauración Nacional, also expressed his concern and said that there are legislators from various political groups who want PANI to sink in financial crisis.
