Partial closures announced for works on Saprissa bridge

The bridge over Virilla River on Route 32, between San José and Limón, will be partially closed on Thursday and Friday, due to the start of works on the site.

This was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT), after announcing that the measures will apply between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am.

It is recommended to use the following alternate routes for those who must use the bridge: Barrio Socorro, San Miguel, Paracito and San Jerónimo.

The MOPT estimates that in a period of 18 months (end of 2020) the works will be ready. They plan to extend the bridge to have three lanes with an investment of nearly $22 million.

The work would be carried out by the Consortium Virilla 32, integrated by the companies Meco and Puentes Calzada, and financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE).

The project management is the responsibility of the United Nations Office for Project Services.
