People have filed complaints against the inclusion of parents’ names in the new ID

At least 8 citizens filed complaints against the new identification card, which includes both parents’ names. Cases are being studied by the Civil Registry.

Luis Chinchilla, director of the institution, declared that the decision of including the father and mother’s name is based on Article 93 of the Organic Law of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE). He added that those are public data and they harm no one.

Chinchilla admitted that authorities don’t know whether these changes will be applied or not because they have to take into account people’s opinion.

The new document has not been released yet and it has already raised a whole controversy, because some people consider a relapse to include this information, especially since there are children from single mothers and the blank “father” would be empty.
