The pilgrims have abandoned 27 dogs and a cat during the pilgrimage between San José and Cartago.
This was confirmed by Rolando Rodríguez, mayor of Cartago, who regretted the situation and assured that now the animals will be transferred to a shelter for street dogs where they will be vaccinated and castrated.
The actions are carried out jointly with associations of the province and the National Service of Animal Health (SENASA).
Later, the animals will be put up for adoption, so Rodriguez called for citizens to come and cooperate.
Rodríguez said that the pilgrimage was successful as there were no major inconveniences. For example, the mayor said that this year the amount of garbage collected decreased, as well as the number of illegal sales.
