PLN supports Christiana Figueres as U.N. Secretary-General

Rumors regarding Christiana Figueres’ nomination as Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) are increasing.

The press release signed by members of Partido de Liberación Nacional (PLN) described Figueres’ outstanding contributions and huge experience at the multilateral level.

Jorge Pattoni, PLN’s chairman; General Secretary, Fernando Zamora Castellanos and Ricardo Sancho Chavarria, International Affairs Secretary, are highlighting Figueres’ achievements and they state that Costa Ricans must be very proud for her academic, professional and personal qualities.

Her career stands out and it goes beyond our borders. The U.N. would be led by a great woman with exceptional qualities, able to promote the highest multilateral agreements,

stated the representatives.

Figueres will leave her job position as Executive Secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Chancellor of the Republic, Manuel González, refused to confirm the nomination. However, the official announcement is rumored to be scheduled for July, 7th at 7:15 a.m. in an activity at the National Theatre.
