PLN would go to a second round if no candidate receives the required number of votes

Jorge Pattoni, Partido de Liberación Nacional (PLN) leader, explained that party officials are studying the possibility of having a second round, even though they are supposed to choose its presidential candidate within the next 20 days.

Our people are working a lot to have everything ready, it’s a huge job. A standard process is being prepared with the Court recommendations; we expect the participation of 350,000 to 500,000 people. The Political Directorate is concerned that there is a second round because in order to be chosen, it is necessary to obtain 40% of the votes. I do not want to speculate how things are, but we are prepared,

declared Pattoni.

The PLN explained that the Internal Electoral Court (TEI) stated that the 40% needed refers to all votes validly cast, without considering blank or void votes.

Pattoni admitted that one of the party concerns is the cost of a possible second round, as it would involve an additional investment of ₡ 80 million to ₡ 100 million.

The PLN lists 1058 polling stations, distributed in a total of 2,131 polling committees.

They are printing 13.2 million ballots, and, due to an internal disposal, those that are left will be recycled. These ballots correspond to 2.4 million for the districts, 2.4 million for the convention, 645,000 for each sector (Women, Cooperatives, Workers and Youth sectors) and 1.6 million for each movement(Educator, Professional and Entrepreneur movements plus Presidency of each of them).

The convention process is carried out with an open registration at national level.
