Two officers of the Administrative Police were arrested last Thursday while they were being investigated for the crime of concussion, as they charged two tourists from Canada $600 for not carrying their passports.
The events occurred on November 14th when the police stopped the two Canadian tourists in Santa Ana de Belén in Carrillo, Guanacaste.
When the officers asked for the passports, they said that they did not carry them. The police indicated that in Costa Rica this was a crime and that they had to pay $600 as a fine.
The tourists did not have the money in cash. According to the preliminary investigation, one of the officers escorted them with his assigned motorcycle to an ATM in Filadelfia de Carrillo, where they withdrew the money.
Then, the victims explained what happened to another Costa Rican, who told them to file the complaint.
Both police offers were arrested at the OIJ headquarters in Santa Cruz de Guanacaste.
