Police met youth leaders from La Carpio, Pavas, La Cruz, Ciudad Neily and Heredia, as well as representatives from the European Union, Costa Rica Íntegra and the Foundation for Peace and Democracy (FUNDAPEM).
They aim to establish a citizen security strategy to prevent crime, In addition, the results of this meeting will be analyzed to include them in the police training plan.
These dialogues with young people are part of the Public Safety Program (PROSEC), which was developed by the Ministry of Public Security and the financial support of the European Union (EU) in Costa Rica: the EU is providing 13 million euros.
The European Union is committed to support Costa Rica in its efforts to train its police forces to fight insecurity. An agreement was signed in 2012.
By doing this, the implementation of state policies, aiming to promote security and social peace within a framework of respect for human rights, is supported.
