President of Nicaragua removes the ambassador in Costa Rica

Daniel Ortega, president of Nicaragua, fired his ambassador in Costa Rica, Harold Rivas. He also removed Rivas’ wife, Jeanette Pérez, who served as Nicaragua’s consul in Costa Rica. The reasons behind this decision are still unknown, according to Nicaraguan media.

The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, presided over by Commander José Daniel Ortega Saavedra, President of the Republic of Nicaragua, has decided the termination of the duties of Comrade Harold Fernando Rivas Reyes as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua before the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica,”

says the document received by the Costa Rican Foreign Ministry.

The Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa reported Monday that Rivas was about to complete his 11th anniversary in this position.

Harold Rivas is the brother of Roberto Rivas, president of the Superior Electoral Council (CSE) of Nicaragua. La Prensa recalled that Roberto Riva was recently sanctioned for belonging to a corrupt network that violated human rights.
