With their own resources, 48 prisoners working in the TO Project, built their dormitories in the Center of Institutional Attention of Cartago.
The modules have a capacity for 48 people and were raised and financed by the population that participated in the project called TO, which cooperates with the prisoners since 2009.
We are committed to the recovery of the prisoner. The fact that a group of prisoners tells the government: ‘we do not want to be part of the problem, we want to be part of the solution, contributing to the issue of overcrowding’ is a lesson that shows how work can build long-term solutions,
said Daniel del Río, President of the TO Foundation.
According to the foundation, the prisoners managed to finance ¢120 million that they saved with their work in the project. The infrastructure includes two bathrooms, a large dining room, a study room, a laundry room and a police station.
In addition, the construction process was led by a group of 26 prisoners, including a construction master, two welders with their assistants, two ceramic plumbers with their assistants and six masons.
