Private universities reject the scrutiny regarding diploma sales

Deans from Private Universities of Costa Rica Association (UNIRE) rejected any challenge to the private education institutions due to the inquisition conducted by the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) for the sale of undergraduate and graduate diplomas.

According to UNIRE, the situation in the institution located in San Francisco de Dos Rios, is an isolated case which cannot question the quality of private universities.

According yo Alban Bonilla, executive director of UNIRE, all crimes must be condemned and such practices will not be tolerated. UNIRE grouped 23 universities which provide 85% of the private study opportunities in the country and indicated that the university under investigation is not part of their group.

Due to the case, the Association of accountants decided to investigate members who graduated from the university in question.
