Pro LGTB Ombudsman blasts local governments

The Ombudsman Montserrat Solano strongly criticized local governments because most of them do not answer when it comes to issues related to the implementation of public policies to eradicate discrimination against the LGBT (homosexual, bisexual and transgender) community.

A year ago, the government issued a decree for public institutions to apply “anti-exclusion” practices. However, Solano said there are municipalities that don’t even answer their phone.

“We have been monitoring compliance with this decree. There are institutions that have responded very positively, but we have this situation with local governments. We still need a lot of awareness and work at the municipal level on these issues,”

said Solano.

The official clarified that not all municipalities responded that way and there are some that even have a specific office for the promotion of the rights of gays, lesbians, transgenders and bisexuals.
