Problems at the Bar Association: “it was not a coup d’etat”

The internal problems at the Bar Association continues after the controversial extraordinary session held on August 18th.

According to the provisional board, Froylán Alvarado Zelada, president-in-office, decided to retire. As consequence, members created a provisional board. It was not a coup d’etat.

Disagreements centered on the creation of a pension and retirement fund, which should be established due to an order issued in June, 2013 by the Dispute Tribunal.

According to union members, there were secrets and lack of information about the meeting that was convened and apparently the board headed by Alvarado declared that it was impossible to create such a fund. As consequence, union members decided to appoint a new board.

The provisional board assured that they asked for different solutions but they weren’t heard.

On Friday, Alvarado stated that he is still the president of the Bar Association and that the new board is illegal: they threatened to kill them, and, according to him, they even spat him.
