Professional associations won’t pay their members’ taxes

An audit of the Comptroller General’s Office revealed that 56% of liberal professionals do not pay taxes on their profits.

However, professional associations claim they have no authority to oversee the matter, since their only role is to oversee there are no unethical practices from professionals. According to their representatives, supervising the payment of taxes is the State’s responsibility.

Those responsible for professional associations explained that they have no power to sanction their members for avoiding their tax obligations. Nevertheless, since 2012 the College of Physicians and Surgeons implements training and preventive actions in tax matters and the College of Economic Sciences keeps their members informed.
