Proposal to pull 4 large crocodiles from Tamarindo estuary

Juan Marín, legislator from the National Liberation Party (PLN), and tourism entrepreneurs suggest to pull 4 large crocodiles from Tamarindo estuary in Santa Cruz de Guanacaste.

The legislator said the proposal was made on Monday by the Minister of Environment and Energy (MINAE), Edgar Gutiérrez, with whom they spoke in Nicoya.

Marín expressed his support to preventive measures such as labeling and reporting, but insisted on the importance of removing those 4 animals because they are dangerous for the population.

According to Marín, Gutiérrez should define how and where to carry them out, since the actions taken by MINAE so far have not satisfied him or entrepreneurs and the State is obliged to make stronger prevention efforts.

Apparently, Gutiérrez is considering the proposal, while the Ministry is conducting a study to determine what their options are.

The proposal came after Jonathan Arthur cker, an American tourist, was attacked on Friday by a crocodile in the Tamarindo estuary.
