Prosecutor will chase corrupt officials regardless of the position

The Public Prosecutor’s Office assured that the crimes of corruption in the country will be persecuted relentlessly, regardless of the position of the accused. This was stated by the acting general prosecutor, Emilia Navas.

The institution published on Twitter Navas statement on Monday morning, after a busy weekend when seven people involved in the cementazo were arrested.

Navas came to this position after Jorge Chavarría’s dismissal on October 13th.

The Supreme Court reported, at that time, that it made the decision to suspend him for three months, because there were several investigations, including the cementazo, that had not been carried out properly.

This weekend, Navas requested six months of preventive arrest against Juan Carlos Bolaños, the Chinese cement importer, and Mario Barrenechea, general manager of the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR) for the cementazo case. She requested the same measures for the other five officials of the BCR who were involved in the granting of the doubtful credit to Bolaños, to import cement from China.
