Red Cross was attacked with stones when arriving to assist victim of rape

Once again, the Costa Rican Red Cross was targeted by criminals when assisting in an emergency in San Antonio de Escazú.

The events occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The Escazú committee received a call to address an alleged case of rape against a minor. However, upon arriving at the site they were attacked by surprise with stones.

Jesús Escalona, coordinator of institutional security at the Red Cross, indicated that they do not know the reasons behind the attack, and they made the decision to leave immediately.

Fortunately, the officials were unharmed.

The Red Cross admitted with concern an increase against the aggressions of its personnel, including theft and attempt of murder.

There have been cases of people who assault the staff because they believe they were too late to deal with the emergency.
