Remember: ICE will go on strike from 9 a.m.

If you must go through San José on Monday morning, be prepared. From 9:00 am, a group of workers led by one of the unions of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) will have a demonstration walking towards the Presidential House.

Ten thousand workers are expected to join the strike organized by the Industrial Union of Electrical and Telecommunications Workers (SITET), and other union movements of that institution, which aims to deliver a document to the President of the Republic, Luis Guillemo Solís, explaining their reasons for opposing the policy of Human Resource Optimization.

Rosa Villalobos, secretary of SITET, explained that the main reason to oppose it is because the institutional policy allegedly promotes the dismissal of 6,000 workers.

The Executive President of ICE, Carlos Manuel Obregón, was clear in stating that there is no justification for the workers to join the strike.

This policy is part of an operating efficiency process that began in 2014. It only reiterates the managerial responsibility to ensure the quantity and quality of staff to ensure future competitiveness and permanence of the ICE Group,”

said Obregón.
