RSV increases in HNN

70% of the children (approximately 221 patients) admitted in  Hospital Nacional de Niños (HNN) are currently suffering from respiratory problems.

Infections caused by a virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have alarmed hospital officials, who receive 50 to 60 cases per day. At least 6 children show severe, worrying symptoms as a consequence of the virus, and 5 have died so far.

Children under one year old are more likely to be infected by the RSV.

Therefore, HNN’s staff decided to classify their patients and they are only accepting children who suffer from RSV and other trauma emergencies. However, minor emergencies receive medical attention in one of the six clinics that are helping HNN:

-Hatillo
-Carlos Durán
-Coronado
-Goicoechea 2
-CAIS in Desamparados

This measure will end on july,4th at 11 am.
