Sandinistas support Maduro in front of Venezuelan embassy in Nicaragua

Followers of the ruling Sandinista Front of Nicaragua held a sit-in in front of the Venezuelan embassy in Managua on Wednesday, to reject the “destabilizing attempts” against the government of President Nicolás Maduro.

About a hundred members of the Sandinista Youth demonstrated outside the diplomatic headquarters waving Venezuelan flags, cheering with music.

This happens while in Venezuela the demonstrations against the Venezuelan government are getting stronger: a total of 38 people died in protests that erupted 40 days ago against the government.

The Public Ministry said that a 32-year-old man, a motorcycle taxi driver, died on Wednesday after being wounded in the head with a firearm during a demonstration occurred on a street in Mérida in the west from the country.

This mobilization is the first sign of support from the party of President Daniel Ortega towards his Venezuelan friend and ally, immersed in a political crisis with daily opposition protests.

The surroundings of the Venezuelan embassy were cordoned off by metal fences and police, and only press identified with the government was allowed to get in.

The rally anticipated a citizens’ initiative that announced a protest on Friday in the same place to repudiate what they described as repression against the opposition demonstrations.
