Sarchí is officially a sustainable tourist destination

Sarchí was certified as an international destination for sustainable development by the German Cooperation Foundation, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), and Travel TourCert. The first district of the canton of Valverde Vega and Sarapiquí are the only ones with this award throughout Central America and the Caribbean.

The community is known for its furniture and crafts, but it also has an outstanding culture, as well as great biodiversity and nature. The work of preserving water sources was an important contribution to receive the prize.

The mayor of Valverde Vega and the sustainability council believe this is a very important step for the economic, social and cultural development of the town that has been increasing thanks to the hotel and tourism industry.

The certificate obtained is valid until 2021, when the commissioned entity will perform an audit to re-analyze the different points that make this recognition possible.
