SENASA to intervene Territory of Zaguates

The National Animal Health Service (SENASA) will perform an intervention in the Territory of Zaguates refuge, to verify the condition of the animals.

Bernardo Jaen, director general of the entity, explained that this visit will not be made due to the video showing several people trying to stop a dogfigh, but simply to verify certain important aspects.

Our duty is to ensure animal welfare and to verify that shelters meet the conditions. Not only do we see the behavior of the animals, but the physical conditions of the shelters, as well as space, food and management,”

said Jaen.

The official said he does not know when the inspection will take place.

When asked about the video, Alvaro Saumet, director of the shelter, said that separating dogs that way is normal and necessary. In this regard, Jaen indicated that they must have a planned management.

The owner of a shelter that assumes the responsibility of having a large amount of animals will also need to have a planned management and a veterinarian present to support that management. We do not believe that animal abuse is a resource, we would have to assess this objectively with a technical sheet to determine if the conditions are met in the shelter and to what degree,”

added Jaen.
