SINOCEM’s former employee: “they made us sign a confidentiality agreement”

A group of workers from SINOCEM Costa Rica, from the Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños, are upset and worried, since they have not received their severance check.

According to a former worker of the administration department, who preferred to remain anonymous to avoid reprisals, the company had them sign a confidentiality agreement, and days later told them there was no money to pay what was owed.

A young woman who also worked for the administration department said that the situation goes beyond just money, since many are finding it difficult to find a new job.

We are being discriminated against, our resume is stained. We can’t sleep, we have no peace and we have no life,”

said the woman.

Jean Carlos Calderón, who worked for Proveduría and was fired more than a month ago, said it is a difficult situation and they hope it will be solved as soon as possible.

We are here to get our payment. They told me to give it time, 15 days, but it’s been more than a month and they do not solve anything, they just throw the ball between Human Resources and Finance,”

said Calderón.

Former employees indicated that at the moment SINOCEM has a staff of approximately 10 people, after applying cuts to 110 people in the plant and in administrative positions.

According to the employees who went to the Ministry of Labor on Monday to file a complaint, the situation is difficult because more than two months ago they were promised that they would be paid and to date they have not received a single colón.
