Sleep tight! Loudspeaker cars won’t be allowed on weekends!

If every weekend or holiday you listen to: “Fresh egg! Fresh egg! Buy some fresh eggs!” as if it were shouted right next your ear, have some rest: residents of San José can sleep peacefully and for more time on weekends and holidays, because from November 15th, there are some regulations on loudspeakers and entertainment activities.

Loudspeaker cars can work from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, this activity will be banned.

In business premises, the loudspeakers will be allowed from Monday through Sunday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and it is totally prohibited the performance of loudspeakers, DJ or the use loudspeaker cars outside these hours except during public interest situations.

Activities that include loudspeakers or DJ can’t be perfomed in a radius of 100 meters around hospitals, schools, churches, chapels, funeral homes or ‘exceptional quiet’ areas (areas established by the Ministry of Health).

According to the regulation, no one can carry these activities if there are not the permits to do so.

In addition, individuals or companies who obtain permits may not use loudspeakers more than 4 to 6 times a day, depending on the area and vehicles may not stay for more than a minute parked with an active sound.
