The president of the Republic, Luis Guillermo Solís, insists that representatives at the Legislative Assembly put off legal reforms for public employment and calls them to debate new taxes.
The Presidente aired those opinions in a letter sent this Monday to the president of the Legislative Assembly, Antonio Álvarez Desanti.
Solís was answering a letter by the legislator through which the opposition alliance, that runs Congress, offered him to withdraw the rationalization project of public expenditures, that corresponds with the fiscal rule proposed by the Movivimiento Libertario and Alianza Democrática Cristiana, and replace it with the one submitted by the government.
This aiming to short-cut the process and start a shorter procedure for voting the proposal.
The President’s letters urges for starting a prudent process to eliminate abuses in the public employment system. Solís also agrees with the Congress move to apply “special procedures” to initiatives to reform pensions regime funded by the national budget.
Additionally, the President ask legislators, to begin discussing the projects for transforming the tax on sales into a Valued-Added Tax and a tax on global income.
In a fragment of the presidential letter pointed out all these reforms must be scheduled and publicized as “transparency measure towards citizens and compliance instrument before risk qualifiers agencies”.
