Solís: “the CCSS is not an independent institution”

Due to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund decision to increase workers’ contribution to the Disability, Old Age and Death Regime by 1%, the Government decided to convene a tripartite panel to discuss this decision.

Minister of Labor Alfredo Hasbun was appointed to lead the table on behalf of the Executive. However, the CCSS didn’t like it, as president Solís declared.

Some officials at the CCSS suggested that there was an undue intervention in appointing the Minister of Labor, who is responsible for assuming the representation and management of the discussion on behalf of the Executive,

declared the president.

Due to this situation, the president sent a strong message to the institution.

The CCSS is not an independent institution, it is at the service of Costa Ricans. It cannot act on its own and do what it wants, it has obligations and it must comply them,

deaclred Solís, emphasizing that they, as an institution, will be part of the Government in the discussion.

Solis hopes that the CCSS acts in a correct way , which is what Costa Ricans want.

A date for the discussion hasn’t been established yet.
