A new equipment will benefit cancer treatment in Costa Rica.

In the coming weeks, The Caja costarricense del Seguro Social (CCSS) will operate a device that will detect the presence of tumors in insured people.

It is an imager called Spect-CT scan, which uses a camera inside the body to show and warn about a foreign body’s presence.

The equipment will be located in San Juan de Dios Hospital and it will replace the device acquired two years ago.

The equipment was an investment of almost 2.000.000 dollars. The CCSS invested 997,300 dollars only in the device. However, 965,000 dollars were allocated to the construction of the space where it will be used and 11,780 dollars were invested in the purchase of equipment to improve its performance.
