Sporadic gas and ash emissions from Turrialba Volcano

Turrialba Volcano remains relatively calm, with very sporadic emissions of ash, gas and steam.

Eliécer Duarte, from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), said that the volcanic tremor has remained the same.

We have seen very high vapor columns above the summit, because the wind has been calm and we have not had a report of ashfall. Although the activity is not copious, the tremor has remained and the signal is moderate to high,”

explained Duarte

According to the expert, they have heard a noise similar to a turbine of a jet in recent days.

The volcano has a regional low zone, a massif that is the volcanic building and three volcanic craters, two of which are not active. When we work, we do it in the low zone. Sometimes we have to go to the top to take some samples or two or three pictures,”

added the man.
