Starting today, only buses can use these streets from the capital

From Monday, part of Avenida 3, Calle 2 and Avenida 6 in San José will be for the exclusive transit of buses as part of the process of sectorization of public transport promoted by government authorities.

The objective of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (Mopt) is clear: expedite transit of public transport buses that circulate through the capital.

What will the changes be like?

Avenida 3: Exclusivity for buses from Calle 2 (Parque Morazán) to Calle 4 (Post Office Building).
Calle 2: from 9th Avenue south to 3rd Avenue (Post Office Building).
Avenida 6: it will be exclusive for buses from Calle 13 (Turrialba stop) to Calle 14 (Parque del Ministerio de Salud). In this avenue, the 100 meters between Streets 12 and 14, changed direction this week, in order to improve the results by leaving the entire section that will be for buses in east-west direction.

As reported by the MOPT through a press release, the change is possible after the completion of the works carried out by the Municipality of San José and the General Directorate of Traffic Engineering of the ministry.

What will happen to private vehicles?

After these changes they should use alternate routes. For example, an alternative to Avenue 3 for a private car drivers would be Avenida Primera. Meanwhile, for Calle 2 you could use Streets 1 or 6 and as an alternative to Avenida 6 you could use Avenida Primera, Calle 1 or 6, and even Avenida 8.
