State of emergency in Limón

The Legislature passed a motion so the Executive declares, through a decree, a state of emergency in Limón due to the crime wave that has been affecting the province.

Although president of the Republic Luis Guillermo Solís stated that he would not declare a state of emergency when the Special Commission of Limón asked for a similiar motion, the proposal was signed by legislators.

According to the proposal, the government can prevent and assure timely management, coordination and effective use of all human, technical, administrative and financial resources in order to protect life, physical integrity and property of the inhabitants of Limón.

Legislators endorsed the initiative after the shooting among organized criminal gangs that took place last Sunday in Cieneguita. As consequence, 5 people died.
