Stem cells restore hope

Tomás Arosemena was not supposed to have health issues, despite being born prematurely. However, at two months old, a vaccine left him in a wheel chair with severe respiratory problems.

For this reason, his family decided to try a treatment that does not promise to cure him, but it will give him some relief and comfort.

The treatment uses stem cells from the patient, which are responsible for the perfect functioning of the body, since they have a key role on forming many cell types and provide new cells.

These cells can be obtained from different sources such as the placenta of the mother (embryonic stem cells), bone marrow, fat tissue or hip tissue (autologic stem cells); and are later transplanted to the patient, after treating them in a lab.

Milagros Sánchez, international expert on the matter, explained that the results of this treatment are amazing in many types of ailments.
