Strike is supported by Ligia Fallas

Ligia Fallas, Frente Amplio member, supports the strike that taxi drivers have been announcing for next Tuesday. She is part of a group called Movimientos Sociales, which brings together many people linked to the country’s unions.

Freddy Herrera, president of Transport Workers, said that in the movement’s origins, Fallas provided them her office so the union’s members could meet. In addition, he explained that he constantly talks with her and her assistant Yerlin.

Fallas admitted that she supports the movement and considers that it is right to “defend workers”:

We are deeply concerned about helpless workers,

expressed Fallas. She also admitted that the union was created in the Legislature.

The union gave hints about what they intend to do on August 9th from 5 am. They explained that they plan to protest in different parts of the country and make slowdowns.

For instance, in Heredia, where Herrera is actively involved, more than a thousand taxi drivers will go on strike.
Herrera declared that government’s threats won’t scare them and if they have to shed their own blood, they are willing to do it.
