Student absenteeism increased in 8 schools due to the ash fall

According to the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), the ash fall, that is affecting some areas of the country, increased the absenteeism rate up to 30% in the following schools: Patio de Agua, José Fabio Garnier, Nubes, Pío XXI, San Jerónimo, Platanares, San Francisco and Cascajal High school.

Until September 20th, when Turrialba’s volcanic activity decreased, none of the schools or colleges near the volcano closed their doors. However, schools’ principals activated the emergency protocols to be prepared in case of a higher risk.

According to the information from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), the ash emission in the mountains of Cartago has not stopped since Monday afternoon.
