Fourth grade students from the Felix Arcadio school in Santo Domingo de Heredia received a special lesson on Thursday morning.
The “World’s Greatest Lesson” was given by Alicia Vargas, deputy minister of public education, as part of an initiative led by the United Nations.
The lesson lasted 40 minutes, in which the vice minister talked about the importance of making the world a more fair, equitable and sustainable space.
For Vargas, working from the classroom on Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) will bring multiple benefits for both students and the country, so the lesson also covered topics such as healthy habits and good nutrition.

said the deputy minister.
According to Jonathan Gordon Lewis, representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), this proposal seeks to provide this generation with the necessary information to become “guardians of the planet” in the future.
The premise is to position the sustainable development goals in the educational environment so that students who are 10 or 11 years old can be empowered with information and be agents of change,”
said Gordon.
The initiative proposed by the UN contemplates 17 subjects to make an urgent call to change in different aspects in the 190 countries in which the lesson was replicated.
