The emergency authorities established guaranteeing water for both human and animal consumption as a priority in the face of the impact of El Niño, during a meeting of the National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Response (CNE).
The water deficit has implications for different sectors that must be served. One of them is the shortage of water for human and animal consumption. For this, organisms that manage the water resource, such as the Asadas, the municipalities, and the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA) must take preventive measures,”
indicated the authorities in a press release.
Each institution involved must generate a work plan, and with its own resources, make provisions to mitigate the impact of the phenomenon.
An organizational scheme was established, where a high level commission was formed, made up of hierarchies, who, in coordination with their regional levels, will work on the contingency plan. Similarly, work tables were set up to guarantee water supply, attention to health problems, and support to the agricultural sector, giving special emphasis to small and medium-scale agricultural and fishing producers.”
In addition, the tourism and environmental sector will receive special attention.
The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) reported that the phenomenon could have a greater impact in November, December, and January. However, the impact is progressive and therefore the manifestations can occur from now.
The phenomenon of El Niño causes droughts for the Pacific slope, mainly the province of Guanacaste, and on the other hand, it causes rains in some sectors of the North Zone and the Slope of the Caribbean,”
