The CCSS wants to fight chronic diseases

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) presented a campaign which includes a healthy dish with many vegetables and natural ingredients, water and a weekly planning of consumer goods.

María del Rocío Sáenz, Executive President of the CCSS, declared that this proposal took into account the epidemiological profile of the average Costa Rican:

Our main causes of death or life problems that generate disability are related to chronic diseases,

said the doctor.

This profile is related to the aging of the population, but also, to a prevalence of chronic diseases, which have feeding as a triggering component.

According to Sáenz, it is necessary to address the problem, since the economically-active population is also suffering from these evils.

The healthy dish proposal is distributed as follows:

-Half vegetables and fruits (best raw or cooked).
– Fourth part of rice and beans.
-A quarter of animal protein: meat, cheese, egg, tuna, fish.
