The CCSS will conduct screening tests in vulnerable areas to timely detect breast cancer

In order to act as a strainer to enable timely care in early cases of breast cancer, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) will make a screening in women that live in vulnerable areas. It will start in 2017.

According to authorities from the Fund, the screening will start as a pilot plan in 5 health areas located in two centers: Solón Núñez Clinic and clorito Picado Clinic.

The strategy aims to personally invite women in Tibás, La Uruca, Merced, La Carpio, Leo XIII, Goicoechea 2 and Moravia, to have a mammogram.

Women aged from 45 ywars old to 69 years old, who seem to be healthy, with no risk factors or suspected breast cancer, will be tested. If the patient has an anomaly, she will be referred to a clinic to accelerate the diagnostic process in order to provide an appropriate treatment.

With this pilot plan, it is intended to reach 14,000 women within two years, then it is planned to apply it in the whole country.
