The Congress refused to process a draft law through a fast-track procedure

The Congress refused to process a draft law through a fast-track procedure so that corruption offenses do not prescribe.

5 legislators did not support a proposal made by legislator Patricia Mora, from Frente Amplio, to dispense with the due process and put it in the first place of discussion of the legislative plenary.

Those who voted against the proposal were Otto Guevara, José Alberto Alfaro and Natalia Díaz, as well as Danny Hayling and Aracelly Segura.

For the special procedure to be approved, a qualified majority of 38 was required, but only 35 votes were obtained.

The project consists of a reform of article 62 of the Law against Corruption and Illicit Enrichment in the Civil Service so that crimes against the duties of the public function do not prescribe and can be tried at any time.
