American Expatriate Costa Rica

The Congress showed support for Mexican people

With 25 votes in favor, the Congress approved to show support for Mexican people due to US President Donald Trump’s threat of building a border wall that would be paid by the Aztec nation.

The proposal, led by liberationist Rolando González and several legislators, also rejects any political action or pronouncement that would deteriorate friendship relations and cooperation between the nations of the continent.

In addition, it urges the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to consider taking action in relevant forums, agencies and spaces to promote dialogue and unity among peoples of the continent.

According to the proposal, the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) and the Forum of Legislative Presidents of Central America and the Caribbean (FOOPREL) has to talk about this issue.

Costa Rica cannot ignore its neighbors, friends and partners of the continent and it can’t allow that the circumstances of the moment affect our will to continue exchanging ideas, projects and joint programs to overcome the differences that usually appear when there is an old and deep relationship,

stated the motion.

The declaration will be submitted to the Mexican Congress of Legislators and the Chamber of Senators.
