The Country has a deficit of 1,600 police officers

Public safety is crucial in any country and Costa Rica is not an exception. Today there is a shortfall close to 1,600 police officers, according to estimates of the Ministry of Security.

For this reason, President Luis Guillermo Solís is asking for the expedite approval of the bill on taxes for public limited companies, which will provide resources to increase the security forces’ staff.

I’m calling for the legislators to approve this law as soon as possible. It’s not a presidential whim, but an emergency that we have to promptly address”

said the Costa Rican President.

The law’s approval would solve much of the problem, but not entirely, since according to the estimate made by the President and Gustavo Mata, Minister of Security, just about 1,000 new officers could be hired.
