The CTP can’t establish a fare since that is ARESEP responsability

The Attorney General’s Office determined that it wasn’t the Public Transportation Council (CTP) responsability to authorize a special service from Alajuela to San José, which Tuasa intended to provide.

The executive trip would have cost ₡ 1,200. However, the usual rate is 500 colones for trips with stops and ₡ 520 if it is a direct travel.

The Council is responsible for the the operation services of the ocassional-regular transport of workers, students and tourists. The cost of the kind of service provided, either regular or special, is a full responsability of the Public Services Regulatory Authority. It is ARESEP’s duty both the fare power and the elaboration, definition and establishment of methodologies or fare models,

stated the report prepared by Attorney General Magda Inés Rojas.

Director of the CTP Mario Zárate had defended the provision of the service, assuring that it depends on the user whether to use it or not.

The document issued by the Office of the Attorney General adds that ARESEP must set the tariff. As consequence, the CTP has no interference in the matter.
